Prepare to get colorful and cheerful, the Color Run is officially coming back to St. Louis. On April 26, this 5k Fun Run will be hitting the downtown streets once again.
“The Color Run was a great experience,” senior Brendan Hynes said. “I really enjoyed it and would definitely do it again.”
Before the race, runners arrive wearing all white. Every third of the way through the race, those coordinating the race shoot colors at you. By the end of the race, a runner is drenched in many different pigments.
“The best part of the race is the part at the end of the race where everyone throws the color stuff up in the air at once,” senior Aaron Brickman said. “It’s called the color throw.”
Many may see a marathon as an intimidating experience, but for most, training is not involved in the anticipation of this race.
“Not a lot of people were participating in the color run to win,” Hynes said. “Most people just ran for the experience.”
Junior Sarah Abraham, who participated in a past event and is signed up to do it again, admired the friendly, non-competitive nature of the race.
“The race is really chill and you can walk or run,” Abraham said. “The dedicated runners usually get there first so they can be timed, but everyone else just takes their time.”
In years past, the Color Run has teamed up with charity organizations to raise money. This year, the run has partnered with Autism Speaks-St. Louis Chapter. While raising money for a serious cause, participants are encouraged to have fun.
“The costumes some people run in are outstanding, colorful and hilarious,” Abraham said.
To sign up for the event, all one has to do is go to the Color Run website and find the appropriate link for the correct event. After paying and filling out some information, you are ready to run. Those who have done the race highly recommend it.
“I would definitely do it again if not for the exciting experience, for the creative people who run,” Abraham said.
