At the end of the day, the parking lot is a swarm of inexperienced drivers trying to push their way out from three large parking lots to one tiny exit. The parking lot is configured in such a way that it not only slows down the pace of the school, but it inefficiently traps students anxiously trying leave.
Having ample parking space for students is definitely a necessity, but having an accommodating way for them to leave is just as vital. Traffic in the lot can last for up to twenty minutes, which is both aggravating and dangerous.
Throughout the school year we are often hit with unpredictable weather conditions and poor planning. Logically, it seems that the parking lot should be of the utmost importance, seeming as it directly links to the safety of students and faculty. Dangers range from classic fender benders to near full on collisions while in the rush of trying to beat the impending traffic jam.
The issues of the lot could be an easy fix with the proper planning and a few adjustments. The first thing one’s mind might jump to is to add an extra exit. While this would cost the school a bit of funds, the reward would be much greater as it pertains to student and faculty safety. With the addition of an exit there would be less stress on students to recklessly rush out, thus, massively decreasing the threat of an accident and injury.
In addition, the school could easily have police officer stationed at the light to direct traffic. Though the light has been modified over the years to increase efficiency, a person being there and directing traffic would be much more efficient in decreasing the back flow of traffic and simply speed up the process of clearing out the parking lot.
All in all, the parking lot has so serious issues that need some administrative fixing. If Central takes the time to fix it now, it could save a lot of future time and heartache.
