With the fall sports season kicking off, several freshmen have been added to varsity rosters. Each sport so far has a freshman that is looking to contribute for the Colts.
Freshmen Zach Hresko and Zach Goldberg earned a spot on the varsity soccer team to start their high school careers. The duo will fill the gaps left by several key seniors including Ben Gross, Justin Bradshaw, and Andrew Chekadonov. The team lost eleven players this year due to graduation, so there will be a lot of new players on the team a year removed from winning the district championship.
“We don’t want to put any pressure on the freshmen,” Coach Theobald said. “We don’t have many expectations besides gaining experience and adapting to the physical style of varsity soccer.”
Over the summer Hresko prepared by playing soccer for the select team, Lou Fusz Soccer Club. Although playing soccer since the age of eight , the high school season is a new experience for Hresko.
“It’ll be fun to play with upperclassmen. I’m looking forward to getting on the field and play at a high school level,” Hresko said.
Although the varsity cross country team returns last year’s captain Scott Coulson and a number of other runners, freshman Charlie McIntyre looks to step up to the challenge of being the next great Central runner. Starting in January, McIntyre trained into the summer with a private coach, helping him prepare for the season. So far, the upperclassmen have made him feel welcome on the team.
“Scott Coulson and Eric Ballesteros give me good advice,” McIntyre said. “I’m looking forward to competing with the best kids in the state and pushing myself against the upperclassmen.”
Other freshmen joining varsity rosters include:

Girls Tennis – Elena Wilner, Rebecca Davis
Girls Golf – Morgan Brody, Kathleen Cannon, Kara Potts, Melanie Wilmert
Softball – Elena Hipp, Alexis Hibbs
Girls Volleyball – Paige Wallis, Katherine Loue
