After facing what senior swimmer Riley Brown feels like was a worthy opponent the boys swimming team lost their first in conference meet in 7 years. A streak that lasted over 60 matches for the team.
The team lost top swimmers Nick Orf and Brandon Wiessman from last year due to graduation. This leaves the boys with young swimmers who still must build speed and two freshman divers who are still learning the sport.
“I don’t think we had enough fast swimmers against West,” sophomore Hiroki Gavin said. “Our freshman divers are starting out and getting some points which goes in our favor they weren’t enough though and West had better divers.”
Gavin feels the divers will progress and get better later on in their careers, but it is still too early for them to be expected to produce in meets.
While the loss was disappointing for the swimmers it wasn’t unexpected that the streak would end.
“It was bound to happen, I was glad West was the team to beat us because they’re truly a good team and it shows the quality of competition we have to work to beat,” Brown said.
The goal of winning still hasn’t changed for the swim team in the eyes of Brown the loss isn’t a big deal.
“It was a disappointment but well work hard and try to build another big win streak,” Gavin said.
