“That’s The idea of putting the knife on the angle is that it gives you a bigger slice,” Mrs.Hilary Graybow, Prostart 3 teacher, said.
This is just an average day in Prostart 3, the most advanced cooking class in the school, helping turn students with a passion for cooking into chefs.
“I first wanted to take prostart cause I’ve always liked cooking, but prostart 3 I wanted to work up to because you get to be more advanced in cooking and it’s a lot more fun,” junior Hannah Bailey said.
The students are becoming better chefs each day, and it has to do with many more things than how the food tastes.
“You have to make sure it has good texture like garnishing, it has to look good. It has to look presentable in order to eat,” senior Maleek Powell said.
Presentation is a bit different for everyone, due to the fact everyone is inspired to cook differently.
“I watch a lot of T.V shows and I do most of the cooking at my house, so, I just like watching and then wanting to do the same thing but like add my own like style to it,” senior Jorris Robinson said.
While some try to cook what they see, others like to be pioneers when they cook.
“You know I like to spice it up a little bit. If there is an optional ingredient or something she says isn’t on purpose, me and Sercan usually throw that in there to make the recipe more interesting or different because it’s more fun that way,” junior Adam Schellenberg said.
Inspiring this originality lies in the desire to try new things.
“To make it different because I think its boring if you have an average kind of tasting food its cooking class, make it fun,” Schellenberg said.
