News Shows and Movies Arriving and Returning to Netflix in 2018
Netflix Original A series of Unfortunate Events Season 2:
I read the books of A Series of Unfortunate Events in elementary school and was really excited to hear that Netflix was making a show for it. This is about three young kids whos parents unexpectedly died in a fire, and have to get sent to a bunch of different family members houses and bad things keep happening to them. You would enjoy this show if you like mysteries and a little bit of crime at the same time, also with a bunch of unsuspecting events. As Lemony Snicket, the writer of the book says on the first page of his first book and the first quote of the Netflix show, “If you are interested interested in stories with happy endings, then you would be better off somewhere else.” This is most off true because the kids have to go through bad thing after bad thing. However, the disappointing thing about this show, after reading the books, I don’t think that the show was as good as the books and it definitely leaves out some events that I thought were important. But most off pretty good and hopefully the next season will be the same. I give this a rating of 2.5-3/5 out of five stars.
The Good Place Season 2:
While I have only seen The Good Place season one on Netflix, I haven’t watched season two which just finished airing on television. I really enjoyed watching this show, I think it is trying to show how no matter the mistakes you make in life you can always change and be a good person. I thought it was sort of a show like Glee (without the singing though) and it was really good. This is about a girl named Eleanor who dies and goes to a place called “The Good Place” which is sort of like an aspect of what most would think of as heaven. She has the same name and same body but everyone thinks she is someone else who has the same name as her and she is supposed to be in the “Bad Place.” This show has romance, humor, and much more. I was really surprised when I got to the last episode and the ending was nothing that I was expecting at all. I really recommend this show and would give this a rating of somewhere between 3.5-4/5 stars.
Netflix Original 13 Reasons Why Season 2:
The show that shocked America. Thirteen Reasons Why, a show about teen suicide and nobody knew what to think about it. Was the idea of a show like this beatifying the fact of suicide itself, or was it a good way to show suicide prevention to all teens and people watching the show? While the producers stated that it was for prevention, some adults do not agree with the fact of their children watching this show. However, after watching this show I think that this show represents to all high school kids going through similar issues in the show, that suicide is never the answer and that not only are you hurting yourself but all of the people around you. I enjoyed watching this show and learning about new topics that I didn’t know much about. I think this show is trying to tell the world that you need to take chances while you can and not to be afraid of making actions that you are scared of, because in the end you could really be effecting someone else’s life around you that needed it. Also, this show had some romance, which I love in shows and movies. I would recommend watching this show if you want to know more about suicide prevention and like romance, but be prepared to cry, because it definitely made me. But, at some points in the show I did get a little bit bored and thought there were some parts that weren’t necessarily needed. But I am extremely excited to see how the next season turns out, and how they are going to continue on this topic. I would give this show a rating of 4/5 stars.
47 Meters Down:
After seeing this movie in theaters about a year ago when it first came out. I would say that I definitely recommend watching this movie. Every since I was little I liked thrillers like this. If you have ever seen any of the Jaws movies, the Shallows, or any other shark movies, you would probably enjoy this movie. Unlike all of the other typical shark attack movies, where everything seems unrealistic, this movie definitely has a different aspect which I can’t say or I’ll be spoiling the movie, but is a lot different than how most of these types of movies end. This is about two girls who go in one of the metal cages to swim with sharks which ends up breaking, and the girls end up getting stuck 47 meters down, at the bottom of the ocean, while surrounded by a group of sharks and have to try to make it to the surface. And at the same time without getting hurt or running out of air. This keeps you on your toes the whole time and has twists that you wouldn’t expect coming. I would give this movie a rating of 3/5 stars would recommend watching.
Netflix original Green House Academy Season 2:
I watched the first season of the Netflix original show, Green House Academy in about two to three weeks. I actually enjoyed watching this show. Although I think it was a little slow and little bit younger than it could be it was pretty good. I liked the idea that it was a boarding high school aspect, which I obviously am not used to, and we got to see two completely different types of students in the show. While at some points this show was a little bit off trail and could be boring at points, I liked that it had some mystery to it also. The show also included a little bit of romance, but mostly it was about a brother, sister, and their friends figuring out a mystery. After watching the trailer for the show I didn’t think this show would be something I liked, but after watching the first episode I was very surprised with how it turned out. I don’t know if I would necessarily recommend this show to all people, I think this is something that would either be a win or a loss no telling how most people would like it. I would like to see how the second season turns out and would give it a rating of 2.5-3/5 stars.
