Ms. Jessica Cliffe has recently joined the history department as a long-term substitute teacher. While she is a familiar face to many, as she subbed last school year, many still have yet to meet the new teacher.
What led you to become a teacher?
“I kind of always knew that I wanted to be a teacher. I always tell the story about when I was seven years old, I used to have a classroom set up in my basement and I would have my own imaginary class. My parents went the whole nine yards to get me a pointer, chalkboard, dry erase board, and all other classroom materials. At a young age I had a passion for it and when I went to college I kind of realized that. The more I did it the more I fell in love with the profession.”
What is your favorite part of being in the classroom?
“I love being able to interact with the kids. It’s a fun enviornment to be in. It’s a differnet work enviornment. I don’t like to sit behind a desk and just stare at a computer all day. The kids keep it fun and lively.”
What was your favorite subject growing up and is that still true today?
“Social Studies. My family and I use to take trips to somewhere historical. That instilled this interest in this subject. Thats what I enjoyed studying the most in high school and it seemed natural going into that subject.”
How would you compare Parkway Central to other schools?
“I love it here. You know ever since I student taught here it’s where I have wanted to be. It feels like I’m back home.”
Cliffe replaces Mr. Michael Kaercher, who recently resigned.
