During the passing period between 4th and 6th period, a fire alarm went off, evacuating the whole school, about 1400 people. That is no small task.
According to a Honeywell employee, the company who maintains and checks the smoke detectors, the false alarm may have been caused by a dirty detector.
Tim McCarthy, building principal, also mentioned why it took so long to begin coming back in the building.
“We took extra precuations because we weren’t sure,” McCarthy said. “It took a little longer than we thought.”
Update 12:29 PM
According to Parkway maintenance employee, Luke Lamb, the alarm may have been caused by either dust from the construction or a water flow valve. The water flow valve may have been miswired when it was maintenanced yesterday.
He also mentioned that the alarm stemmed from work in the theater.
Update 2:15 PM
According to a Honeywell employee, the false alarm was caused by a dirty detector in room 400 above the ceiling. The Honeywell maintenance crew is currently working with the Parkway team to fix the problem in the theater.
