Sophomore Sarah Abraham endures a 15 hour plane ride just to see her grandparents in Kerla, India over the summer.
Q. What does it mean to you knowing you get to go to India?
A. “It means a lot to me. I get to see my family and where my roots and heritage come from because I don’t get to see very much of that sort of stuff here.”
Q. What do you do while you’re there?
A. “I visit family and go shopping. After about a week we usually end up complaining about the heat and sitting around staring at each other. It’s pretty funny.”
Q. Is there any sort of tradition or special thing you do while in India?
A. “I eat from Ann’s bakery, the food there is incredible. I also visit the Taj Mahal and do some normal tourist sightseeing.”
Q. How do you communicate with people?
A. “I can understand what they say, but I can’t speak the language. They can usually understand my English, though sometimes it can be difficult.”
Q. Whats one thing you really look forward to when you go to India?
A. “Visiting my grandparents, because I only get to see them once every three years, so that’s pretty special.”
Q. Is the trip worth it?
A. “Yeah it is, especially because I stay there a long time… even though it’s hot.”
