In recent years, bubble tea (more commonly known as boba) has become increasingly popular especially for younger adults. There are multiple boba shops and stores around the St. Louis area including Cube Tea, St. Louis Bubble Tea, Corner 17, Bubble Cup Tea Zone, Spoonful, Hitea and others. Now, there is yet another boba shop that opened this past spring.
Sweet Tapioca Cafe is located in Hilltown Village Chesterfield where the Subway used to be. Despite my memories of being in that building as a Subway, it’s now hard to imagine it as anything but a boba shop now. From the floor to the ceiling, this little shop is beautifully decorated with holographic butterflies and white flowers. There are games and books on shelves and smaller tables with velvety cushioned chairs. My favorite little details were on the side of the cups. It says, “you’re my cup of tea.” The drinks were around $7 pretty evenly across all the teas. With an additional cost for toppings, though the classic brown sugar boba was not an added cost.
There was a wide variety of drinks including milk teas, fruit teas, slushies and even lattes. For the amount of boba and the overall quali-tea, I think this drink matched the price.
Oreo Milk Tea
I bought two drinks to sample. The first was an Oreo Milk tea. This drink was super sweet and chocolaty. I loved the chocolate syrup on the sides of the cup and the crushed Oreos at the bottom. The Oreo crumbles especially added a different texture to the drink and elevated that Oreo flavor. However, what blew me away the most, were the tapioca pearls. They were soft on the outside and chewy on the inside and overall, really satisfying to eat.
Dragon Fruit Lemonade Tea
The second drink was a dragon fruit lemonade fruit tea. When I tell you that this drink was pink, I mean it was hot pink! The first thing I thought of when I saw this on the menu was Starbucks’ dragon fruit refresher. I liked that I could actually taste the tea flavor. However, the lemon flavor was harder to taste and maybe that might be a result of the fact that the dragon fruit flavor was slightly overpowering. The pieces of dragon fruit in the tea was a nice touch and again brought out a lovely texture. Additionally, the seeds didn’t get stuck in my teeth even though I thought they would, which was another bonus.
