Varsity girls soccer players are working hard towards starting the season off right. With a record hovering just around .500 last season, returning players are starting to see a shift in their efforts towards success.
Senior Ellie Sioumcas, sees the importance of starting the season off strong. As it is her last season, it is the most valuable to her and her team.
“I want to make sure that as a team we’re close from the beginning, which would evidently start the season off strong and push us to have a good rest of the season,” Sioumcas said.
The hardest part about playing a sport in high school is to not get burnt out by the end of the season while juggling homework with games and practice, and a possible social life. Sophomore Mya Hoff explains the value of soccer in her life, regardless of the challenges that come with it.
“While I do get a little burnt out trying to balance school and soccer, I would be bored without playing this sport. I’ve played soccer since I was 3 and I can’t imagine not playing the sport that has got me through most of my life,” Hoff said.
Junior Alyson Poe expresses the significance that soccer holds in her life. As sports continue to be a place where athletes can go have a break from their normal lives.
“I really love soccer because it just gets my mind off everything in my life that I’m either struggling with or really just don’t want to think about while I’m playing,” Poe said.
What comes with the sport is the ability to step up and become a leader for a team sport. Senior team captain Kaitlyn King has the ambition for captaincy and a strong love for soccer.
“My favorite part about being captain is that I personally can help lead other people to be the best they can be, while also being there for them in any aspect they need me for,” King said.
