As we officially move into fall, it’s time to review the 2024 summer trends and predict how much longer we will see them. Bows made a huge appearance throughout the entire summer and were seen mainly in ribbon form in hair and on clothes. Senior Brooke Williams “loved bows” yet sees them going out of style very quickly.
“I just think the trend has gone on for too long and it’s getting too repetitive and overdone,” Williams said.
Once companies realize something’s trending they make an excessive amount of their product to make money. The trend of having water bottle accessories is an example of this. Attachments like wallets, snack holders, and even cuter straw caps are sold for the Stanley Cup. Senior Alie Simmons finds this trend overrated and doesn’t want it to stay in style.
“A water bottle is just a water bottle,” Simmons said, “There is no need to spend money on something unnecessary.”
Like the Stanley Cup, other companies are fighting to become the new water bottle brand of the season. Owala has created new styles that mimic the Stanley cup and can be bought with different accessories. Sneakers have been another accessory, to tie the whole outfit together. The Adidas Sambas have been around since the 1940s, yet only got super big over the summer.
“They are going to stay in style for a while,” Williams said, “They have a variety of colors that can go with whatever your personal style is.”
Fashion is very subjective, meaning not everyone will be on board with these trends.
“I think the sambas feel like bowling shoes, they just aren’t for me,” Simmons said.
There are very strong opinions on the different print patterns that have made a big scene over the summer. Junior Dominic Rudolph is a fan of the cheetah print trend going around whereas Williams finds it cheugy.
“It’s classic, it’s used a good statement piece,” Rudolph said.
Animal prints have been cycling through as trends for the past few years. In 2020 cow print was the big thing and in 2022 zebra print was next.
“It’s gonna be an endless loop of going in and out of style, it’s honestly not my favorite trend,” Williams said.
Unlike 2023 there was no movie themed summer, instead of barbie summer it was brat summer. Singer Charli XCX released an album called “Brat” that overtook every radio this summer.
“I love Charli XCX, I think the whole brat thing is such a fun trend right now and I think its like bringing people together in a fun way,” Simmons said.
A TikTok dance has been made from one of the songs on the album that seems to be bringing thousands together. The roblox game, Dress to Impress, has also been joining people together. Dress To Impress is a runway fashion game and has been around since Nov. 11 2023 yet is just now getting popular. Many people played it before but since Tiktok has advertised it it has become more popular than ever.
“It will forever be THAT game. It’s trendy now and always will be,” Rudolph said.
It’s popularity reign might just be ending if we look back at other game trends.
“Its probably just a phase everyone is going through like Among Us or Fall Guys,” Williams said.
In 2020, Fall Guys became the most popular game during COVID but quickly died down after Among Us took over everyone’s Tiktok for you pages.
The trends of the summer are interesting to review and follow along with. Trends can help bring others together and that is sort of what the summer of 2024 trends have done.
