The dance team ended the season strongly at state by placing sixth in Pom and second in Hip Hop. With seniors signing out and freshmen just joining, the team reflects on how their season went, and the highlights they will never forget.
Senior Amanda Gubernik reflects on her time and credits the memorable relationships she has made with her teammates.
“Our team chemistry is very strong,” Gubernik said. “We all have a very special bond and we always have the best time together as a team.”
Similarly, senior Ande McNew cherises the team bond this year, as she ends her dance career at Parkway Central.
“This year was one of the years that everyone came together and felt like a team,” McNew said.
Team chemistry is crucial to their success, and senior Allie Schenberg felt it was part of her role as a captain and upperclassman, to be a leader for her teammates.
“Our team definitely got super close this year and we as captains try to prioritize creating an environment where we could all help and talk to each other.” Schenberg said.
Junior Anna Frank is a German exchange student who joined the dance team this year. Despite dancing in Germany, she had to learn Central’s choreography and start from scratch. However, Frank was able to quickly adjust because her team embraced her with open arms.
“Everyone was really nice and welcoming,” Frank said. “I made a lot of friends, because it was scary at first being new.”
Dance goes beyond just winning for junior Sophia Hinden, as it has been a part of her whole life, and a way to be herself.
“I stuck with dance because it gave me my closest friends and I fell in love with it when it allowed me to express my emotions,” Hinden said.
Hinden credits dance as a place for her to connect with her teammates, but also a place for her to thrive and grow herself.
“Dance has always been an outlet for me and been a place for me to grow individually and with others on the team,” Hinden said.
Even though the season is over, McNew will cherish every memory she has made with her team, as she continues her journey after high school.
“I am going to miss the people on the team because I have danced with them since the very beginning,” McNew said. “It’s going to be sad not seeing them almost everyday after school or competing together.
The dance team was a place for Schenberg to call home as she spent four years with her teammates, and has come incredibly close to. Even though her dance career at Central has come to an end, the bonds she has made with the other girls will be an everlasting memory that she will never forget.
“I will miss laughing and having fun at practice each week with my team,” Schenberg said. “The adrenaline and excitement of competing, and supporting the basketball and football teams at their games.”
