The lacrosse team started off the season strong, as they head towards the end of the regular season with a 7-2 record as of May 4. The team looks to improve their skills from last year as the players put in the work to make this season the best one yet.
Junior Lizzy Wagner has been proud of her teammates in all the hard work and dedication they have had to the sport.
“I am really impressed how all of us have worked hard and took every opportunity in practice to grow and work well together,” Wagner said.

According to junior Elle Wujcik, junior Mia Behrends scored the winning goal with under 25 seconds against Parkway South on April 16, which was a top highlight for the team.
“It was insane because we all worked so hard during that game and everyone gave their best which showed,” Wujcik said. “I was so proud of us and we were all jumping around and screaming.”
Senior Evie Huff remembers the win against South as an amazing moment this season, as her high school lacrosse career is coming to an end.
“The team ran together at the end and it made me so happy to see our hard work pay off,” Huff said.
A huge part of the sport is the relationship you have with the team, and for them they are able to connect really well, which you can see both on and off the field.
“Everyone is really good friends and we have a bunch of bonding scheduled,” Wujcik said. “It’s a really fun environment and everyone is fun and positive. We really feel like a family.”
Similarly, Wagner has cherished how well her teammates have always been there for each other, which contributes to their outstanding performance on the field.
“All of us girls are able to connect with each other,” Wagner said. “Every practice feels like team bonding because every time we are on the field we are happy to be with each other.”
Being on varsity since freshman year, Wujcik is constantly focusing on being the best version of herself, both on and off the field.
“Improving my leadership skills and stepping up for my teammates and being there for them to answer questions or help out,” Wujcik said.
At the beginning of the season, Behrends set goals for the team and believes that they have worked hard to improve their skill to make this season the best one yet.
“We are working on communication and continue to collectively grow as a team,” Behrends said.
Senior and Co-Captain Alie Simmons is proud of her work ethic and dedication she has had to the sport she loves.
“My biggest accomplishment would be being captain this year,” Simmons said. “I think I worked really hard to prove myself.”
Wagner looks up to the seniors as they have been leaders and role models for the team, and she couldn’t ask for better teammates.
“The seniors have really helped to make sure everyone is included,” Wagner said.” They are great people to look up to.”
As the regular season winds down, Wagner has thought about what next year will look like without the seniors. She is thankful to the seniors’ commitment to make this year a memorable season that she will never forget.
“Senior night was a bittersweet moment because I thought about all of them not being here next year,” Wagner said. “It made me upset but it’s nice to miss something that special because it shows how much of an impact it has made on the team.”
As thoughts about next year arise, Wujcik wants it to be no different than this year, despite having big shoes to fill for the seniors.
“Hoping for a lot of communication and passing down knowledge and help each other out next season,” Wujcik said.
Senior and Co-Captain Sarah Jones will be graduating this year, but still hopes the community and dedication to the sport continues to grow even in her absence.

“I hope they have a lot of team unity and continue to work hard,” Jones said.
Wagner attributes the team’s success to coaches that are supportive and always there for the players.
“The coaches have helped me grow to love the sport and just enjoy it,” Wagner said. “Lacrosse is about having fun and that is truly shown through the way they coach us.”
Lacrosse will end their regular season at Lindbergh on May 9 at 4:15 p.m.
