“Live by the PK Die by the PK” was the last speech coach John Theobald made to the soccer squad after a loss in sectionals to St. Dominic’s. After the team had escaped many close games with penalty kicks, they fell a little short of victory.
“It’s really disappointing for our season to come to an end like that especially considering how well we had done on PK’s this year,” senior captain Ben Gross said.
At the end of regulation, the score remained locked at 0-0 forcing an overtime. Once again, neither team was able to score and it came down to one on one action. Senior goalie Andrew Chekadanov was able to stop 1 but 3 others that he got a hand on, but slid into the goal.
“We had our opportunities to put away the game, but it really just wasn’t going our way,” Gross said.
Overall, the team concludes a well fought season breaking a Central soccer record with 21 victories. The team finishes their playoff run taking the positives away from the season.
“We were able to accomplish a lot more than most people thought we would. We had high expectations on the season and we gave it everything we had. So no regrets at all,” Gross said.
