The music department held their fall orchestra concert on November 13 in the theater.
During the concert, which was directed by orchestra teacher Winifred Crock, Concert I orchestra, Concert II orchestra, and Symphonic Strings orchestra all performed various pieces.
“[The concert] was awesome. We practiced so much for it. I was so nervous but it really paid off,” junior Sana Khadim said.
Each orchestra played pieces ranging from classical to more modern songs. According to Crock, it is always a challenge to play in the theater because of the small time limit each orchestra has to practice in the area. Crock says that every group did a nice job adjusting to the theater atmosphere.
“[The concert] was a wonderful experience. I’m in Concert II and it was cool to see what I will get to do when I join the symphonic orchestra. I always look up to them,” freshman Michelle Augustine said.
For the symphonic orchestra, the concert was more than just a time to play their songs. The group used the fall concert to prepare for the state conference at Tentara in January. Every year groups apply, but only three orchestras are chosen from the state. This will be the second year in a row for the symphonic orchestra to attend the conference.
“The hardest thing about the state conference is that everyone who is in the audience at this concert is a very serious musician. It’s a whole different atmosphere,” Crock said.
The other groups are also preparing for upcoming concerts. Concert I will perform during the Madrigal Dinner December 7 and 8. Concert II orchestra will perform in the Central Area Jazz Fest November 19 at Parkway Central Middle.
