While he was once a major role-player in the famous, perennial sitcom “Friends”, Matthew Perry has taken the starlight in his new television series, “Go On”.
Perry, sometimes better known to the public as Chandler, his character on “Friends”, seems to have found a new home as the lead character of his own T.V. show.
While originally skeptical of Perry being the only main character of a series, I have been impressed by the show’s early first 12 episodes.
In the situational comedy, of which Perry is familiar in his roles in the shows “Friends” and “Mr. Sunshine”, Perry plays the role of Ryan King.
King’s career as a sportscaster who has a radio show attracts many sports fans, but his personal story attracts all watchers. King has lost his wife recently before the show begins, and goes to a grief support group. While not originally wanting to go to the group, and being even more hesitant to embrace the other participants, King ends up accepting his fellow grievers, and getting involved in their lives as well.
Little known Tony award winning actress Laura Benanti also plays a key role as the leader of the grief group, of who King seems closest matched to.
Also contributing to the cast is John Cho, King’s boss and also his very close friend.
Tyler James Williams, known from his role in “Everybody Hates Chris”, plays a crucial role as a kid as a teen in the support group who King most closely relates.
With the continuation of the series for at least 15 more episodes, look out for Matthew Perry and his so far successful comeback on his new show, “Go On”.
