On a freezing winter night, the boys varsity basketball team defeated Webster Groves by a score of 52-48. Coming into the game, Webster Groves had not lost a conference home game in over 12 years.
Last year, the Colts were in a similar situation looking to end the streak when they led by 17 points after the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Webster Groves came back to win the game and extend their streak past the 11 year mark.
With that in mind, the Colts took to the Webster Groves court looking to put an end to the run.
The Colts held a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter of play. During the quarter, the game clock malfunctioned forcing officials to add seven seconds to the time. Ultimately, the Colts made free throws in the last quarter to withhold the lead.
Senior guard Andrew Chekadanov led the Colts with 17 points in the game.
The Colts end Webster Grove’s run of 83 straight home conference victories. The team improves to 10-9 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. The next game will take place at Oakville on Feb. 5.
