Entering its sixth season, “The Big Bang Theory” has continued to impress its viewers. The show features four geeky scientists and their attractive neighbor. All four of the scientists work together at the California Institute of Technology.
Two of the scientists, Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter, share an apartment together across from their neighbor, Penny. Sheldon lacks social skills, like the ability to comprehend sarcasm, and follows a very specific daily routine.
Rajesh Koothrappali, suffers from selective mutism, and requires alcohol in order to speak with women.
Another friend, Howard Wolowitz, is a wannabe ladies man who still lives with his mother. And lastly, Leonard is portrayed as the “nucleus” to their friendship. They spend most of their time either in the lab, playing retro video games or eating at the Cheesecake Factory.
Throughout the years, “The Big Bang Theory” has hauled in numerous awards, both for the show as a whole and for individual actors. As a show, it won the People’s Choice Award for best television comedy in 2010, the American Film Institute’s television program of the year award in 2010, as well as many more nominations during the six-season span.
Receiving many awards over the years is lead actor, Jim Parsons, better known as the quirky Sheldon Cooper. He has won the Individual Achievement in Comedy by the Television Critics Association Awards in 2009, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series by the Primetime Emmy’s in 2010 and 2011, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy by the Golden Globes in 2010.
The sixth and most recent season premiered on Sept. 27 and began with Raj struggling to fit in now that he is the only single person left in the group. When Howard returns to Earth from his space expedition, he is unaware of the changes that occurred while he was gone, including him being replaced by the comic book shop owner Stuart as Raj’s best friend.
As a weekly watcher of the show, I can say that I’m greatly impressed with the new season. I was skeptical before this new season because this is usually the time that shows begin to get repetitive, and writers struggle to think of new creative ideas. Much to my pleasure, I have been intrigued by the new plots and humor that the show is well known for.
