The St. Louis Symphony has awarded orchestra teacher Mrs. Winifred Crock the Outstanding Education Award for her teaching. She is the only teacher to receive the award for her hard work and success with the students in the Orchestra.
“I felt just pleasure, I mean how thrilling is that,” Crock said.
She said it was good that a major organization like the symphony is recognizing education, outside of teacher organizations.
“I am just glad there is recognition and awareness from a major symphony. The award brings awareness to our program and our department, that is what is important,” Crock said.
Crock said local media outlets, including PBS, have expressed interest in featuring her, including Ruth Ezell of the show “Living St. Louis” on Channel 9 in St. Louis. Her students believe she is worthy of this recognition for the dedication she has to helping all students succeed. Seniors expanded upon her character at the spring orchestra concert.
“Mrs. Crock is my favorite teacher of all time. She works so hard to get to know us all and teach us all about making beautiful music,” senior Amy Camp said.
In addition, Crock’s influence extends outside of the classroom. She impacts how students approach different types of events in their lives.
“Mrs. Crock is so very entertaining and compassionate for all her students. She is such an inspiration to all of us. She pours every bit of energy she has into teaching and preparing us all for life,” Camp said.
All the students look up to Crock and all of the hard work she puts into her job. They witness a dedicated educator that will do anything to help others succeed.
“We would not be the people we are today without Mrs. Crock,” senior Maggie Madsen said.
Other orchestra members also agree with the fact that a lasting impact has been made by Crock. For four years, she taught them not only about music, but about life as well.
“I know that I feel like she has done more than just bring us to competitions and get us into orchestras,” senior Sean Byrne said. “I’m not going into music, but I know that music is going to have a lasting impact on the rest of my life and I can thank her for that.”
