The outdoor strip mall in the Chesterfield Valley has already made a name for itself as one of the largest outdoor shopping centers in the nation. Now the commercial hub is looking to expand even more. Not only will one outlet mall be opened in the vicinity, but a second one will be added all in one month’s time.
“I’m excited about the opening because there will be more places to shop and the stores will be bigger, which means there’s more stuff to buy,” sophomore Mia Feldman said.
The two outlet malls are going to be located off of the Boone’s Crossing highway exit within a few miles of each other. They are both being funded by multiple different companies.
The St. Louis Premium Outlet Mall is being developed by the Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group and Fort Worth, Texas-based Woodmont Outlets. The mall is set to open around August 22, 2013. Armani, Coach, Michael Kors, Nike, and Under Armour are a few of the 85 outlet stores expected to be in the mall.
The Taubman Prestige Outlets is being developed by Michigan based Taubman Centers and Warren, New Jersey based OutletPartners LLC. The mall is projected to open around August 2, 2013.
It’s goal is to open up before the back-to-school sales that usually take place at the beginning of August. Many of the big name retail stores that this outlet mall has to offer is American Eagle Outfitters, Brooks Brothers Factory Store, Gap Factory Store, and Ralph Lauren.
“I’m mainly excited for Which Wich,” said junior Christina Wilson. “I always go to it in Dallas and at Mizzou and am obsessed with it. Along with having phenomenal sandwiches, it also has a drink machine with any flavor you can think of.”
Because of how close the two malls are to each other and the numerous stores already located in the Valley, there would seem to be a lot of competition for customers.
“We have a variety of outlet retailers that will only be found at Taubman Prestige Outlets,” said general manager for Taubman Prestige Outlets Chesterfield Colleen O’Neil. “We are thrilled to be in St. Louis in Chesterfield and plan on being actively involved within the local community. We also have some exciting events planned that will happen throughout the year inviting customers to experience our center.”
