The boys track and field team placed 10th out of 16 at Henle Holmes Invitational with 31 points. They also placed 12th out of 15 at Fred Lyons Invitational with 25 points.
“The guys track team is smaller than previous years,” junior Scott Coulson said. ”I have seen the younger guys step up when they are needed.”
According to Coulson, the veteran athletes influence on the track is helping to shape the younger athletes work ethics.
“The upperclassmen help our team to succeed. Their races are showing our younger guys what it means to be a team.”
Sophomores Eric Ballesteros and Stephen He competed on the 4×800 relay team that placed 7th out of 15.
Junior Khalen Saunders broke the previous shot put school record with 57’ 4” at the Jim Schmuck Invitational.
“Before I threw it there was a competitor who threw a 56’ and that was out of my range. I was thinking to go out and compete with him,” Saunders said. “I came in and threw a 57’ 4’’. I guess it was all adrenaline that made me do it. It felt good to know that I won and that I beat the record.”
