Whether singing on stage with Pizzazz, making important decisions for the student body in STUCO or attending Project Help meetings, senior Lexi Hightaian has a hand in it.

“I think my favorite part about being involved is that you always know when everything is happening,” Hightaian said. “With all of the events Project Help and STUCO host, there’s no way you will be left out.”
As a freshman, Hightaian knew that she wanted to be involved, especially in the music department. Pizzazz first captured her attention as it involves a group of selected students who perform choreographed singing routines. Even though the group was limited to sophomores and older students, Hightaian still found ways to get involved as a freshman.
“I was a roadie and helped them out at competitions and performances, and then sophomore year I auditioned and made it and have been a part of it ever since,” Hightaian said.
Being involved in the school has also allowed her to form close relationships with teachers along the way, especially Mr. Ben Silvermintz, Pizzazz director.
“Lexi is unfailingly kind, exceptionally caring and a thoughtful, diligent young woman,” Silvermintz said. “It’s no accident that her own growth has been mirrored by that of her ensembles. Both Concert Choir and Pizzazz are better for her membership and leadership in and for the groups.”
With may school organizations, Hightaian said there is never a dull moment.
“I love to perform and I love the rush that you get before performing, but with Student Council, I have formed and shaped all of my leadership skills,” she said. “It has also helped me learn how to work with people in both large and small groups.”
Hightaian is also a member of TRYpod and Peer Teaching.
“I will miss all of the activities I have participated in a lot,” she said. “I am planning on staying involved in college but probably not as much as I have been in high school.”
Hightaian will be attending Southeast Missouri State University to major in elementary education with an emphasis in science.
“I definitely think my involvement has prepared me for what will come,” Hightaian said.
