Seniors Adam, Ben, and Aaron Levy were born just minutes apart, and for 19 years now, they have been nearly inseparable. Even with the looming reality of college quickly approaching, these brothers won’t have to worry about breaking up anytime soon.
While most seniors brace themselves for having to part ways with their friends at the end of the summer, the Levy triplets will not be parting ways. All three boys have finalized plans to attend Bradley University, and according to Ben, the news has been surprising for others to hear.
“People always ask us, ‘Wouldn’t you guys rather split up?’ since we’ve been together for so long,” Ben said. “But I always tell them that my brothers are my best friends. There is no reason why I would want to split up with my best friends.”
Ben mentions that he and his brothers were not being forced to choose the same school. In fact, each of them had the freedom to look at the colleges of their choice. But after visiting Bradley for the first time, it happened to be the top candidate for all three.
“Bradley has an amazing campus, and it isn’t a huge school, which is what I was looking for,” Ben said. “We all made our choice individually, and they happened to be the same.”
Thanks to some encouragement from his parents, Ben also came to realize how much more convenient it is for him and his brothers to go to the same school.
“Imagine all of us going to three different schools with three different orientations and move in days and what not,” Ben said. “It would have been a nightmare.”
What might make things even easier for the Levys as they transition into college is their a living arrangements, which will not differ much from how things currently are at home.
“It’ll be cool because Ben and I will be roommates while Adam and my friend room together,” Aaron said. “We will probably make a lot of new friends, but we will also find similar friends because we have many of the same interests.”
Time Together
After all these years, being a triplet continues to be an incredible experience for them.
“My favorite part about being a triplet is that I always have someone to hang out with,” Adam said. “We are all very close since we do almost everything together.”
Among other things, the boys especially enjoy trash talking and battling one another while playing video games. In addition, as Adam explains, the three of them use much of their free time to play various sports.
“We started playing street hockey last year. We have even constructed our own goalie gear,” Adam said. “We use old catcher shin guards, a chest guard, and a helmet. For the blockers we use oven mitts, foam pads and duct tape.”
School Support
Aside from always having friends to hang out with and endless options for activities, the Levys find other advantages to being triplets. Along with being able to split yard work and chores among three people, they are also able to help one another in school.
“When we have a lot of similar classes or the same classes, then we have study parties together,” Ben said. “Adam and I had Honors Government together last year, and we would spend hours before a test studying.”
Ben credits a lot of his success in school to being able to review material with his siblings.
“Seriously, if I graphed my test scores when I studied with my brothers against without my brothers, the first graph would be much higher and more consistent,” Ben said.
The trio also offers unique support, and Aaron has become especially thankful for that.
According to Aaron, he was diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder and mild anxiety when he was 12. He needed medication to control the symptoms, but unfortunately, one of the side effects was that is slowed down his metabolism. As a result, he gradually gained weight over the next two years and started to get out of shape.
Aaron tried to go on a diet and workout more during his freshman year, but he failed to stay committed and did not make much progress. It was not until last year that he finally found success.
“During junior year I went off the medicine that made me gain the weight, and enrolled in Walking Fitness. This class along with my fixed metabolism helped me realize that I can lose weight if I put my mind to it,” Aaron said. “Suddenly, pounds of fat melted away from better eating, exercise and an improved lifestyle.”
Though Aaron himself was the only one who could make the changes, he received a lot of encouragement throughout his transformation.
“Most of my friends and family complimented me and noticed how I lost weight, so that always feels good,” Aaron said. “That helped me realize that others noticed my hard work.”
Aaron is optimistic about keeping the weight off when he goes to college. But nonetheless, he and his brothers are looking forward to spending another four years together.
“I think it is cool that we are continuing our school experience together,” Adam said. “We will always stay close with one another, no matter the location.”
