Thousands of people crowd around the stage, on which Imagine Dragons plays hits from the debut studio album “Night Visions” in combination with flashing lights and quirky dance moves.
Imagine Dragons performed at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on Saturday, Sept. 14. Before Imagine Dragons, four other up-and-coming alternative bands performed: Silversun Pickups, Cage the Elephant, Greek Fire and the Neighbourhood.
As a headliner, Imagine Dragons put on a spectacular show. The songs, catchy and upbeat on the album, did not fail to impress live. The vocalist maintained his high-quality performance, as did the rest of the musicians.
In addition to the excellence of the actual music, the lighting effects kept the show exciting. The main focus, though, was the music. The band stayed true to the music and avoided being too gimmicky.
Since the focus of the show was the music above all else, the crowd had a positive reaction to certain hits, such as “Radioactive,” “On Top of the World” and “Underdog.”
The crowd’s reaction to these hits contributed to the positive atmosphere of the show overall. The majority of the crowd was looking to enjoy the music and was very friendly and open on the lawn of the amphitheater.
One pitfall of the concert, however, was the extensive lineup before Imagine Dragons actually performed.
Although bands started playing around 5 in the evening, Imagine Dragons did not take the stage until closer to 9:45 p.m.
This is not to say, however, that the other bands were not entertaining.
They were talented and upbeat, for the most part, and catered to the alternative music fans that made up a majority of the crowd.
Despite the talent of the preceding bands, most of the crowd was not aware that the headliner would not be on until much later in the evening. This long wait before the main event dragged the concert out just a little too long.
Even with this setback, Imagine Dragons put on a terrific show, and I have no doubt that the band’s performance quality will only increase as its level of experience does.
