Just when you thought the season was over, they fight back to play another. Down 2-1 in the National League Division Series, the St. Louis Cardinals force a game 5 against the Pittsburgh Pirates which takes place this wednesday at 8:07 eastern time. The Cardinals dominated game four behind pitcher Michael Wacha. Wacha had a no hitter going into the 8th inning, when he gave up a homerun to 3rd baseman Pedro Alvarez. That was the only run and hit for the Pirates, as the Cardinals won 2-1 off of a two-run homerun from Matt Holliday.
The series now heads back to Busch Stadium, where the Cardinals will send Adam Wainwright to the mound to face off against Gerrit Cole. Both pitchers have a win already in the series, each with an earned run average below 1.50 this postseason. Over the past three years, the Cardinals are 7-1 in elimination games as they look to improve to 8-1.
“I’m really pumped to see what the comeback cards are made of this year,” senior Tyler Musgrove said.
