At the start of the Spring Semester, seniors will have to reapply to obtain their precious Colt Pass. I wonder why there is a need to have seniors re-apply when theoretically all throughout the Fall Semester, our absences and grades were being monitored. If there were any issues with skipping or failing classes, they should have been caught my now.
Instead, seniors who are in the crunch time of applying to college and scholarship forms cannot leave to go home and work on them. I understand that having a Colt Pass is a privilege, but every senior with a Colt Pass should be up to standard at this point. The delay to return Colt Passes to seniors seems pointless.
Realistically, all it would have taken was to look at senior’s final grades the day before we came back to school. If the student did not fail a class and had no unexcused absences or tardies then they would be eligible for a Colt Pass at the start of this semester.
Most importantly, Parkway Central teachers love to preach about how in college there is no “guardian” overlooking our progress. However, with the Colt Pass system seniors are babied as to whether we are allowed to decide what we want to do during our academic labs. If Central is going to practice what they preach it’s time to let seniors decide how to spend their academic labs.
I understand we are supposed to have our Colt Passes returned next Thursday. Thankfully we will not have to wait another six weeks to have them returned. I hope the administration looks at this process in the future and realizes that holding Colt Passes for two weeks really does not affect senior learning and engagement.
