Although a 7-9 finish may not indicate it, the Rams had a lot of positive things to look back on in the 2013 season.
The Rams finished last in a division that may be the toughest in the NFL with the third place Arizona Cardinals having a 10-6 season and barely missing the playoffs. The Rams went 1-5 in divisional games this season.
The Rams look to have success in the upcoming NFL draft. The Rams control the second and thirteenth pick, but there has been some speculation that the Rams may try to trade the second pick and get more lower picks.
Even with the exciting possible outcomes of the draft, the Rams saw a lot of great signs out of there younger players during the season. Third year defensive end Robert Quinn was the face of the franchise for the majority of the season, leading the NFC in sacks with 19. Quinn lost the sacks title to Indianapolis Colts’ Robert Mathis by half of a sack. Quinn earned his first career pro bowl selection. Joining Quinn on the pro bowl team from the Rams was second year punter Johnny Hekker, who led the NFL with a 46.3 net average.
Rookies also helped lead the way for the Rams in 2013. With his fast legs, Tavon Austin led the Rams explosive offense scene. One of the pleasant surprises for the Rams this season was the rise of rookie running back Zac Stacy who first started in week 5 of the season. Stacy ran for 973 yards and three touchdowns.
The biggest question mark for the Rams after this season is what can we expect out of franchise quarterback Sam Bradford? Bradford went down with a torn ACL in the game against the Carolina Panthers, and backup QB Kellen Clemens took over the rest of the year and had a surprising record of 4-5.
