On Saturday, teams from various St. Louis area schools congregated at Vetta Concord off Tesson Ferry road for the State Raquetball Championships.
Senior Zach Lazenby started his day of competitions at 12:00 P.M. and kept playing the whole afternoon, winning each game until he got to the Finals in his division, which is the top singles division in State. In the Finals, Lazenby faced Thomas Riganti from SLUH, which is a prestigous raquetball team. Lazenby beat Riganti in the first two games of their match which won the entire match.
“It feels good” Lazenby said. “I think coming into this as number 1 in the state adds the extra pressure but i think I prevailed and did pretty well.”
While winning the top division at the State Championship feels good, Lazenby is looking onto accomplishing bigger and better things. Lazenby and other Parkway Central/North teammates are traveling to the National Championships in Portland, Oregon.
“I am missing a week and a half of school and a week of baseball tryouts but it’s worth it,” Lazenby said.
