The student-faculty basketball game is a long practiced tradition. In the past, the game has been limited to a single event and game. However, this year, Senior Men is hosting a basketball league to amp up this tradition.
“We wanted to try to make what we had done with the senior vs faculty game a bigger event,” Senior Men sponsor Tom Schaefer said.
This five week event will include four weeks worth of league play with a playoff week at the end. On the last day of playoffs the winning student team will play against the top faculty team. Sponsors Schaefer and Mr. John Theobald view the league as a way for plenty of students to take part of a school event.
“We were trying to find a way to have more opportunity for kids to get involved in school,” Theobald said.
As far as the organization of the teams goes, there are nine players to a team. Teams can be coed, but no more than one varsity player can be on the court at a time. Exact numbers are unknown at the time, but a large turnout is anticipated.
“We’re hoping to have at least 8 teams and we’d love 12 or more teams to participate,” Schaefer said.
The league is expected to start before spring break, and then finish after school resumes. Those participating in the league are excited for game play.
“Me and all my friends did the J basketball league,” senior Stephen Wilson said. “So now we’re looking forward to getting to playing in another league.”
