Following an opening day victory against the Cincinnati Reds, the student body looks to keep Cardinals baseball spirit high on Apr. 7. As part of the home opener celebration, all students are encouraged to wear their Cardinals attire or the color red to school in honor of the game.
“It sounds like a fun day,” senior Brian Wilson said. “I always love to represent the city and my Cardinals because they are my favorite team.”
According to freshman Luke Trail, the city of St. Louis has always been a baseball town in his mind. The Trail family has season tickets and Trail has witnessed multiple home openers.
“I have gone to previous opening day games, but I can’t this year because of baseball,” Trail said. “I think that most people at this school really like the Cardinals and will support them on Monday and it will be successful.”
In addition to the successful spirit at school, Trail believes the Cardinals have a depth chart for victory this season.
“I think they have a good chance at winning it all this year because the addition of Johnny Peralta gives us another powerful bat,” Trail said. “Plus, we have a really strong pitching staff.”
Wilson furthered the support by stating that the Cardinals have a group of driven individuals.
“My favorite players are Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina,” Wilson said. “I remember when he closed the 2006 NLCS against the Mets. They both give their best effort every outing and are very dedicated players.”
The Cardinals organization is expecting a sellout crowd for the game against the Cincinnati Reds. In addition to the stadium crowd, Wilson believes there will be a strong demonstration of support at Central.
“I feel like St. Louis is such an amazing baseball town that most people have a lot of clothing relating to the Cardinals,” Wilson said. “I think there will be a lot of support at school.”
