Senior Joe Esstman’s recent haircut obsession has made him the talk of the school, but that’s not all he’s contributed this year. Esstman was put in a tough situation this past year. With his family moving to Denver, Colo., for his dad’s job, he was stuck between moving out with them or staying in Missouri by himself for his senior year.
“I never quite knew what to expect. At first I was a little worried about how I would survive the chaos of senior year. But I soon got over that worry and changed my outlook,” Esstman said. “I saw this year as a stepping stone to college. I had way more independence since I wasn’t with my family, but I wasn’t all by myself to do everything for me.”
Esstman is not completely alone in this, however.
“I‘m still surrounded by friends and family who watch out and take care of me, so it’s nice still having a sense of security. I feel like I’ve been given a chance to prepare myself even more for next year and I think I did the best I could to take advantage of it,” Esstman said.
It’s safe to say that everyone at Central was happy with his decision. Esstman came back for his fourth year in the Parkway Central basketball program. He had outstanding season, proving that he was up to the challenge of being a leader on the court. His great hustle and polite manner toward the refs were noticed by everyone during games.
His real passion is shown during the spring sports season, when he gets to show his raw talent and athleticism in volleyball.
Esstman isn’t just an amazing athlete, but he is involved in numerous school events. You can find him at almost every extracurricular activity, whether it’s the varsity girls soccer games or the jazz band concert, he will be in attendance and cheering on the participating students all night.
Esstman is also involved in almost every school sponsored organization central has to offer. He participates in Peer Teaching, Project Help, Future Business Leaders of America, Lead, Drug Free Council, and is the band’s “formal ambassador.”
His dedication to school, both athletically and academically, makes him one of the most distinct seniors of the 2012 graduating class.
