Following a complete game by senior Connor Kraus to advance to the district championship, fellow senior Matthew Bernstein pitched another complete game to help propel the Colts to a 5-3 championship win.
Pitching all seven innings, Bernstein kept the De Smet Spartans to three runs. Although hitting three batters, Bernstein dominated on the mound as the defense made timely plays behind him.
Sophomore Josh Konecek led the team in runs batted in, driving in two of the five runs. Seniors Tyler Deaton and Johnny Naughton also drove in runs.
Entering the 5th inning, the game was tied at 3, when Naughton hit a hard line drive right up the middle to score sophomore Michael Rembold. The following at-bat, Konecek drove in senior Sam Riley with another single to center-field. With the first lead of the game, Bernstein shut down the Spartans the rest of the way.
The Colts entered districts as the 5th seed, and defeated both the #1 ranked team in CBC, and the #2 ranked team in De Smet to win the championship. The Colts will face Marquette on Tuesday for sectionals.
