The Varsity soccer team picked up an away victory at Webster Groves on Thursday in penalty kicks.
Webster Groves was ranked #7 in the St. Louis area going into Thursday’s match up. Coming through with the win was a big confidence boost for the team, and an exciting moment for all of the boys.
“It was the most exciting game of this season and all of my high school career,” junior Dean Randolph said.
Thursday’s game was especially big for the teams goalie, Junior Michael Rembold, who made important saves late in the game.
“Mikes saves were huge. Us only scoring 2 out of our 4 pks, it’s really big that he came up with all the stops because we didnt do too well on our part,” senior Austin Mischel said.
Rembold told his teammates prior to the penalty shots that he was going to at least two saves, and he kept his word. Not only did Michael save the game on Thursday, but he also celebrated his birthday.
“I wasn’t thinking about my birthday at the time, but looking back I realize that it was a really cool moment. Picking up the win was the best birthday present I could have asked for,” said Rembold.
The team feels confident moving forward in the season. with a record of
6 and 0, they remain undefeated and are playing tough late in games. Being a young team, it is important that all of the players are on the same page. Sophomore Luke Trails says that his teammates are all great friends, and work well together.
“We have a lot of good team chemistry because a lot of us our close friends and we hang out outside of soccer,” Trail said.
The soccer team is off to a great start, and beating Webster Groves added to their recent success.
