TV is back, but it is also in trouble. While several of it’s returning classics are still as popular as ever, it’s newer content isn’t getting such popular ratings.
“Most shows today have gotten worse, since they continue when they should be stopping,” sophomore Victoria Langley said.
Some shows, like “Family Guy”, “The Simpsons” and “Modern Family”, are still quite popular, but the newer sitcoms are getting less than positive results.
“They have to be funny and have kids and a little bit of drama,” sophomore Lindy Unell commented.
Everyone has expectations about the kinds of things they want to see in their shows. Whether it’s comedy, drama, music, action, everyone has their own interests.
“Humor, plot, suspense and action,” sophomore Jon Levinson said.
There are reasons people do not like certain shows, and even want them off the air. Maybe it’s the appropriateness of the shows that is the cause of lack of viewers.
“Family Guy and the Simpsons because they are too inappropriate,” Unell commented.
Maybe it is because the show just was not very entertaining anymore.
“Walking Dead because it’s boring or self explanatory,” Langley said.
Shows also have several variables that lead to them getting canceled. Whether it’s ratings or scandals involving the cast, there are countless factors made in the decision.
“A lot of actors and actresses get into legal trouble or get higher roles,” Langley said.
While the characters do play a role, it also has more to do with the current show quality.
“Lack of views and a movement towards more mainstream shows,” Levinson said.
However, there are some shows that people wish were not getting canceled.
“Shake it up because it was funny,” Langley said.
The plot and characters can also play less forgettable roles in the viewers mind of a show.
“Naruto because I like the action and it has memorable characters,” Levinson said.
People are expressing their reactions when they saw the new, 2015 content quality of their favorite shows.
“I was happy,” Levinson said.
Some people found that the new episodes had a more entertaining plot.
“I’m always shocked as the plot thickens,” Langley said.
TV may be back, but it is not better. Most people do not seem to like the direction TV is going in. But TV continues on for the few people who do like the direction it’s going in.
