Complementing his work on the stage, junior Matthew Kertzman has taken on the task of creating the lobby display in anticipation of the upcoming musical, “Mary Poppins”.
“When the audience comes in, this is one of the first things that they’ll see,” Kertzman said. “It gets them in the world of the show and prepares them to see it.” Kertzman, the house manager for the Central drama department, is in charge of all activities and events in the lobby and/or seats.
PCH Players president Sami Zucker commented on the benefits the entire show receives from Kertzman’s artistry.
“I think it’s great to have it up here,” Sami Zucker, PCH Players president, said. “We got it up here super early so whenever people walk by they see it and get drawn in. Hopefully, this will make people see the show.”
While the display has been made quickly, the thought process behind it was fairly extensive.
“I read through the whole script and wrote down a lot of reoccurring theme and found a way to incorporate all those into one thing because it’s supposed to get the audience into the frame of mind of the show,” Kertzman said.
Zucker echoed Kertzman’s hard work, noting the added thought put into the lobby advertisement
“Matthew’s doing an amazing job pulling different pieces from the show [for the display],” Zucker said. “Instead of the lobby display just being a sign that says “Mary Poppins”, it’s got all these elements that tie back to the plot and theme of the show.”
