Why are we in school if it is below 20 degrees? It’s freezing out there, and yet we still have to attend school. Why? It’s too cold outside.
Why can’t the school board just give us a break? It won’t kill us to miss a day of school because it is too cold out. Other school districts get the day off. Why can’t Parkway be the same?
It would be better for the students’ health if they got the day off if the temperature got too low. Forcing them to wait outside for their buses only causes more harm then good. Sure the student might be able to get one day of school in, but would it really be worth it if that student got sick and missed more days of school. Not at all. It isn’t worth putting the student’s health at risk, just to go to school.
February 17th and 18th are perfect examples. The roads were too icy and the temperature was too cold for us to go to school, and yet they had it anyway.
Of course, to be fair, it could be that the school board doesn’t want to risk using up all of our snow days now and leave us with none for any possible future ones, to avoid running into the summer.
But still, it doesn’t make any sense to prepare for something that might not even happen and make the students feel like popsicles as they wait for their buses. Much better to not to have school.
We may not need them, but still, spring is right around the corner, so I say, lets use them while we still have a reason to.
Seriously, if it becomes clear that we shouldn’t have school the next day, due the roads being too dangerous or the temperature being too low, just call of school. Better to miss one day and keep the students healthy, rather than their well being at risk, just to keep us in the classroom for one more day. It just doesn’t seem worth it.
