Students in Mr. Dan Kelty’s Academic Lab got a surprise this morning.
“Josh Mannis brought a guitar to school today,” Kelty said. “He wanted me to play for them because I played for them once before a year or so ago, so I tried to ignore the request but I couldn’t — so I sat down and played a few songs.”
Although he did play for his lab, Kelty said he was not in his comfort zone.
“I was really nervous, and I have a really lousy voice,” Kelty said. “I enjoy playing guitar at home by myself a lot more.”
His students tend to disagree about his skill level.
“Kelty is a great performer,” senior Max Baron said. “He’s is underratedly good at singing; it really had some good soul to it.”
Kelty has been playing guitar for ages, despite not having much guidance.
“For my 12th birthday, my older brother and mom bought me my first guitar,” Kelty said. “Once I got it, I just started playing and eventually taught myself how to play.”
Overall, students enjoyed the surprise they received during Ac Lab.
“It really improved the way my day was going,” Baron said.
