The 2018 Parkway Central Colts volleyball teams have had a season full of fun and competition.  All 13 players on the freshmen team, 10 players on the JV team, and 14 players on the varsity team have improved from the beginning of the season to now, with the season ending in just a few short weeks.

“I think I improved a lot on my serving, serve receiving, and hitting a lot this season. I can now play like I mean it,” freshmen player, Caitlyn Kang said. Caitlyn as well as Alannah Zuber, another freshman volleyball player agree that their team could have done a little better, but the team bonded well together which helped a lot. “I learned a lot about leadership,” Zuber said.

Practice begins each day by players setting up the nets and stretching. Next, the teams usually condition for about 30 minutes. Conditioning can range from running to footwork skills, stations, and even yoga. After they condition and get their heart pumping, they will partake in drills. This includes serving drills, passing drills, and hitting lines. Later in practice, they usually scrimmage or play a game. Like any other high school sport, all three levels practice every day after school from 2:30 to 5:30. Varsity has an additional practice on Sundays.

In the end, the volleyball season was a success. Players improved their volleyball skills and at the same time, conditioned their bodies for a long, competitive season. Some will continue with playing club, while others might participate in another sport. Some may just enjoy the break until next volleyball season.
