Call of the Wild is a classic tale of the famous literary novel written by Jack London in 1903. It was directed by Chris Sanders who also directed the classic “Lilo and Stitch” in 2002 and “How to Train your Dragon” in 2010. He has no shortage of making great movies that the whole family can watch and love. The film came out on February 21, 2020 and hasn’t done the best in the box office because I thought the movie was actually very good and as it really tells the story with a heartfelt message.

The movie was filled with excitement and adventure. The CGI in the movie was far from good, although when you looked past it there was really a great story to be told.

The characters in the movie were great, by the end of the movie you were emotionally attached. Buck the main character, who is a mix between a Saint Bernard and a Scotch Collie and his story is really great. He starts out as just a house dog with the worst manners, but has the right intentions.

He ends up getting taken and sold up in Alaska where he meets Perrault (Omar Sy) who is looking for another dog to add to his sled as he is the mailman in the great Alaskan wilderness. While working in the sled Buck begins to learn more about himself and eventually becomes the lead dog after beating Spritz in the fight for top dog. Buck leads them to their stop where they are on time for the first time.

Sadly Perrault finds out that he won’t be needed as they are going to fly the mail from now on and not use the dog sled. So Buck and his team are sold to wait for their next sled crew. And sadly they were given to a new Hal who pushes the dogs to the limit and almost kills Buck by making him cross the river which has thin ice. But before Buck has to cross John Thorton (Harrison Ford) saves Buck but couldn’t save the rest of the dogs as Hal (Dan Stevens) gets all the dogs sadly killed. Buck finds himself with only John by his side and they turn out to be the definition of a dog being a man’s best friend. They go searching for gold together and when they finally find it they find their home too. John realizes that he doesn’t even need the gold as they just need each other. As I can not spoil the ending but Buck finds his match as a white wolf finds him and Buck realizes that is where he belongs.

This was a great family film and I highly recommend “Call of the Wild” for movie night. This movie deserves two thumbs up and it is a must watch. And on that note it came home early due to the COVID-19 complications like a lot of movies are doing. So catch “Call of the Wild” digitally right now.
