Due to recent budget cuts, many staff members have switched or lost their positions, including the district registrars.
During the 2011-12, Parkway had 28 district registrars spread out between all of its schools. Last spring, that number was cut down to 10 for the schools to share.
“The superintendent recommended cutting back on the number of registrars after receiving input from a committee of Parkway administrators and approval from the Parkway Board of Education,” director of management and research Dr. Nathan Tyson said.
According to Tyson, the remaining registrars are centralized this year, rather than the school-based system they used last year.
“Centralized registration is being implemented in Parkway to save money and to help ensure data integrity.” Tyson said. “Another benefit is that it allows families new to the district to register all children at one time and in one location.”
The decision to cut back on the number of registrars is just one of the many affects the budget cut has had on the district.
“Moving to centralized registration was one of the many decisions made by Parkway administrators to accomplish the savings,” Tyson said.
