As new technology becomes more available, a transition from paper mail to online communication becomes evident through the use of email and Infinite Campus to send report cards.
“It’s the way the world works. Technology is more available now,” assistant principal Mr. Travis Fast said. “Technology is more efficient and there are more incentives to take a close look at where money is spent.”
District decisions are not the only factors that affect new technology in school. Modern times have also provided students and staff with easier ways to communicate, such as email.
“Email is much quicker and easier,” mail room specialist Diane Barnes said. “In today’s technological society, the average person has email on their phone and computer. This enables information to reach more people faster.”
According to Barnes, the amount of mail being sent out of the school has seen a steady decrease over the last five years. When Barnes started her job in the mail room four years ago, there were approximately 450,000 pieces of mail sent out each year. However, last year there were approximately 350,000 pieces of mail sent out. Despite less “snail mail”, Barnes’ job has not slowed down.
“My job is affected by email and by the addition of Infinite Campus,” Barnes said. “More and more information is distributed through Infinite Campus, but that is a good thing. Information gets out quicker and it saves the district money.”
