Tennis season may have technically ended, but the team is still going strong. Five girls on the team are heading to state.

Chava Hahn (12) and Hayley Lener (11) won their district for doubles, while Captain Maggie Huff (12) and Brenna McClain (12) got second in districts for doubles. Emily Heller (9) got second in districts for singles.

Huff’s communication skills in doubles help her in her role as captain.

“I often make sure that the team is on the same page and has a positive attitude. I also work well with a lot of different people so it is useful for doubles,” said Huff.

While most fall sports still have some ways to go, the regular season for the girls has ended. Many matches have been played and many practices have taken place, but tennis continues for the five players who are going to state.

“A memorable match for me was the match we won that ensured our spot at state for individuals. That was important because that was the deciding match. It was a super exciting moment for me and my partner,” said Hahn.

Although the regular season is over, the game can still be played outside of school, but the high school season has a special place in Hahn’s heart.

“I used to do club year round before and after the season but I stopped doing it sophomore year and just played club in the summers. I love playing high school tennis because it is always so much fun,” said Hahn.

It isn’t all about going to state and winning every match played. Hanging out with the team has been a positive experience amidst difficulties as well.

“One of the difficulties this season was figuring out the doubles teams because we had a few freshmen to add to the mix and an injured player for part of the season. Thankfully we got that all figured out,” said Huff.

Coach Lee Hayes and the girls still have matches ahead, but based on their playing this season, we hope the wins will continue.

The girls will be playing in state for individuals on Oct. 14, and if they go for team, that will take place on Oct. 22.
