Although last season ended disappointingly, girls basketball is coming back to make this year even better. The team lost some key seniors last year and is working on building back the program.
As a senior, before Ellie Sioumcas’s high school journey comes to an end, she wants to enjoy the time she has left and to set up success for the upcoming years.
“My goals are to be welcoming to the new people and be a leader on and off the court. I want the season to go well for senior year and want my teammates to be successful,” Sioumcas said.
Senior Kaitlyn King agrees and wants to make her last year count and make it something to remember.
“I want us to improve as a team and play together, continue to stay positive despite what happens, and build off of what we have as a program,” King said.
Coach Paul Hussman, who is starting his third year as varsity coach, recognizes the hard work his players put in and appreciates their dedication to the sport.
¨Ellie Sioumcas and Kaitlyn King are two seniors that showed up three mornings a week for 6 weeks,” Coach Hussman said. ¨They got here at 6 a.m. and then went to school. It is impressive as a coach to have that from seniors. They are leaders and hard workers.”
Sioumcas feels confident going into the season because of all the work they did preseason.
“Preseason, we worked on technical stuff like ball handling and shooting to help make the season go more smoothly,” Sioumcas said.
Junior Sadie Levy, who set the school record for most three pointers last year, has hope for the new season.
“Last year I was proud of how we finished even though we lost our last game.
We worked really hard for the outcome so we have something better to look forward to for this year,” Levy said.
As her season starts to come to an end, King has a message for her teammates.
“Keep giving one hundred percent effort, putting it all on the court, and continue to show up and give it your all.” King said.
