With the new addition to the boys varsity Basketball team, assistant Coach Jayden Littlejohn, the Colts are off to a strong start with a record of 8-5. Littlejohn, a former player at Parkway Central, has provided very strong leadership, which is what has excited Littlejohn about his new job.
“ I think the most exciting part is being able to share the knowledge that I have with the team and watch them progress throughout the season,” Jayden said.
Jayden plays a very key role to the teams success, He is able to give personal advice to players from recent experiences as a player.
“I feel like it’s always good to have somebody else to go talk to and get some advice from other than Coach Muells.” Senior Ty Adams said.
Jayden has always had a dream of coaching, with former assistant coach Ryan King stepping down it brought his dream to life and he was able to step up and accept the job.
“Coaching is something I figured I wanted to do during Covid. I had been coaching my brother’s teams since I was 16 so it’s nice to be able to make a career out of it,” Jayden said.
Even though he is young, through coaching his brother he has gained invaluable experience. The biggest difference is that instead of coaching his family he has stepped into a bigger role and a bigger task, of older and more experienced kids. However, with Jayden being closer to his players age it’s a great opportunity for the players to get good advice coming from a figure that was in their shoes not long ago.
“I think it’s good to have a little chat while sitting on the bench while Muells is coaching and little John can give you pointers personally, instead of as a team aspect” Adams Said.
Overall the new role Jayden has stepped in has been a huge benefit for the colts success. He is able to do his job exactly how he wants. The colts are looking to make a run this season with a very experienced team, with their new leader making an impact.
