As many would say, the sport of lacrosse takes not only individual skill, but a team effort to really succeed. Girls varsity lacrosse athletes continuously state the importance of team bonding and connecting well with their teammates to be a better unit.
Lacrosse senior captain, Sadie Rosenberg, explains how important friendship and bonds are in lacrosse.
“The best thing about lacrosse is how much of a team sport it is, unlike other sports where they are more individually focused, but with lacrosse, how much you can connect with your team affects the outcome of your season,” Rosenberg said, “Because you can be good individually, but how you work as a team is what is going to influence your end results.”
It seems to be a common theme that lacrosse is about not only the sport itself, but the friendship that comes out of it. Sophomore, Elle Wujcik, missed the synergy of last year’s team and is ready for this year’s season.
“This season I’m really looking forward to playing with my team again. I really missed them from last year since we all work so well together,” Wujick said.
Not only do the returning players to varsity have to connect, but the new additions have to fit in to make the team whole. Senior, Anna Kladiva, clarifies the relevance of bringing together the different skill levels of the team to make one bond.
“I want to work on connecting with the underclassmen and just making sure we can include everyone and work jointly as a team,” Kladiva said.
With the ending record of 5-8, the team will work hard at a winning record this year. Many players, such as Junior, Alie Simmons, believe in the team’s abilities this year to have a more positive outcome.
“I’m really excited about making a comeback and possibly beating the teams we lost to last year, as I see a lot of potential in this year’s team since we already have a pretty strong bond together,” Simmons said.
Rosenberg comes into her last season with a goal in mind to help improve the team in order to have an outstanding season.
“Something I want my team to focus on is communicating, as talking is a huge part of lacrosse, and that if you can’t communicate with your team you’re inevitably going to struggle on both defense and offense,” Rosenberg said.
