Like many high school sports teams, what stands out amongst the players is the chemistry. The boys varsity golf team is no different. Junior Dillon Harris is one of the returning varsity players and enjoys the vibe amongst his teammates.
“What I like about the team is that we are just a great team and we’re always together,” Harris said. “We’re always just laughing and joking with each other and we all love to just pick on Aiden [Seidel] and mess around with him a lot.” Freshman Mukt Patel is new to the team this year, but he still enjoys the fun environment.
“My favorite memories are Aiden doing some dumb stuff on the course and Aiden getting a hole-in-one,” Patel said.
The golf team is looking to repeat their success from last season, with a 8-7 record in school to school matches and a 3rd place in districts. This year was marked with uncertainty for the Colts, with a new Head Coach David Jafari and Assistant Head Coach Dedrick Harris. In addition to the coaching change the Colts also lost two key seniors Jack Carroll and William Edwards. Despite the uncertainty Patel has helped fill the gaps the team is missing.
“I’d probably have to say Mukt you know as a freshman. He’s done a lot for our team making state and he’s just really contributed to our team a lot and helping us out with districts and conference,” Harris said. Although he is just a freshman, Patel has big goals for the season.
“My goals are to place top 10 in the state,to have my handicap down to zero, and to try to shoot under par on 18 holes,” Patel said. These goals however come from the work that Patel has put in during the offseason.
“In the offseason I went to the range to hit some balls every couple of days and I got some lessons with my coach,” Patel said. Both Harris and Patel are key contributors to the varsity team among others such as Jack Miller and Maxiumus Carroll. Despite a placement of 9th in the Mehlville invitational, Patel is looking forward to ending the season strong in the State round.
