Tennis is usually seen as an individual or singles game, yet in high school a big part of the matches are doubles with a partner.
Whether playing singles or doubles, team chemistry is a big part of the sport. Senior Mollie Goldberg explains how well the team works together both on and off the court.
“I think a strength our team has is working together and communicating, we can all rely on each other whenever we need something,” said Goldberg.
Similarly, senior Ella Burstein believes the team has many strengths when working together.
“I think our team does really well with communicating with each other, especially when playing doubles,” Burstein said. “When playing in a doubles match, you have to really challenge your partner and support them in the process, which our team does very well.”
In addition, senior Emily Heller believes the team is great at supporting and cheering each other on.
“Our team has really good spirit and good connections,” Heller said.
Junior Varsity coach Heather Jafari mentions the struggles they have had to start the season off, and how they will have to maneuver around them.
“We had a lot of girls graduate and a lot of girls join for the first time this year,” Jafari said. “So a lot of girls are not able to play with their doubles partners that they used to, so we have had to spend a lot more time finding ranks and partners.”
Senior Evie Huff is looking to make her last year count. Her coaches are a great resource when it comes to struggles or advice.
“The coaches contribute to the team’s success in many ways,” Huff said. “Coach Hayes and Coach Jafari are both very helpful and support everyone. Coach Hayes always calms me down and gives me good advice on the court.”
Burstein is also grateful for her coach’s help and dedication to the team.
“They are always so supportive of what we need and are always willing to help us no matter what,” Burstein said.
Furthermore, Burstein pushes herself to be the best she can for herself and her teammates.
“Some goals I have for the season are winning a majority of my matches,” Burstein said. “But if I don’t win, I won’t let that discourage me from trying and playing my best at all the matches.”
