The 2025 football season has not gone as well for Parkway Central as they would have liked to. The starting QB for the Colts, Colin Applebaum, junior, suffered a setback in week 1, which sidelined him for the majority of the season.
Applebaum started at QB last year for the Colts as well, as he is no stranger to the big stage. Applebaum dives into his journey playing football and what got him to where he is now.
“I picked it up freshman year and played QB for JV and started for Varsity the last 2 seasons,” Applebaum said.
Applebaum suffered his injury midway through the first game of the season against Parkway South, where the Colts ended up winning with a score of 6-0. Applebaum dives into how his injury happened and what his recovery process was like.
“I was rushing and got tackled hard on the ground and got a concussion,” said Applebaum.
“It was pretty hard because I’ve never had an injury like that before and took a lot longer to recover than I had hoped for,” Applebaum said.
Though his injury sidelines him for a long period of time, Applebaum did his best to stay close with his teammates in the best way possible.
“I stayed connected with the team by talking with them during school and still being on the sidelines during the games.”
Applebaum just recently played his first game back against McCleur North, where the Colts did eventually end up losing, but Applebaum threw his first touchdown of the season in that game. Applebaum talks about what playing his first game back was like.
“It was a little stressful, I was definitely more cautious being back for the first time in a while” Applebaum said.
Applebaum and the Colts hope to end the season strong with districts coming up right around the corner in just a few weeks.
