The boys varsity soccer team, approaching the post-season with a 16-5-1 record (at press time), have 11 seniors leading the team to a winning season. The team has come up with victories over Marquette, Kirkwood and Priory.
“We have really come together as a team, and I think we have a really good chance of competing for the state title,” senior captain Ben Gross said.
After a win against Marquette, the team received a higher seeding heading into the playoffs and faced Priory on Oct. 30. With a 2-0 shutout victory over Seckman, the team clinched the Conference title.
Previously this season, the team defeated defending state champion Priory in a shutout performance by a score of 4-0.
“I think that if we play up to our potential not a lot of teams can beat us, but you can never take an opponent for granted. So we will have to play a good game like last time (4-0 victory) and remember it’s win or go home,” Gross said.
The team is upperclassmen-dominated with the leadership of 10 seniors.
“We have great team chemistry. It’s like we’re a family and everyone is close and we all play good together,” junior Nick Helmbacher said.
